Agartala to Tezpur Flights

The Shillong Airport is a domestic airport (IATA: SHL) near Umroi, Meghalaya, located about 30 km from the city of Shillong. The airport administration is handled by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Air Force. The airport was constructed in the middle of the 1960s and was not open to passengers till the mid-1970s. To expand the airport, 224.16 acres of land were bought in 2009. The project commenced in June 2009 and was completed in May 2010. In June of 2011, a new terminal building, with a construction cost of Rs. 30 crores, was opened to the public. In 2015, land was donated for the potential expansion of the airport. In 2017, AAI completed the following projects: installation of an instrument landing system (ILS) and two refuelling facilities, extension of the runway, and elimination of flight-path obstructions. To handle narrow-body planes such as the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320, the existing runway, which is of 6,000 ft in length, will be expanded to about 8,000 ft. A total of 8,000 crores was spent on the project, and the expansion was said to have been quite challenging.

Tezpur is a picturesque town located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra. This location serves as the district headquarters for Sonitpur. The Agartala Airport, known as the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport (IATA: AXA), is situated about 12 km to the northeast of the city. It is the third busiest airport in Northeast India. In 1942, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur developed this airport. Several airlines, including SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Air India, offer regular flights to and from the airport. During the Second World War, the airport served as the supply base for the Allied troops. During the war, ammunition and supplies were airdropped from the airport. The Agartala Airport has one terminal. However, it has two boarding gates and can accommodate up to 250 people per hour at arrivals and departures. In addition, for the convenience of passengers, the terminal has fourteen check-in counters, four security checkpoints, and one immigration counter. In addition, passengers can hire a private vehicle or bus for transport to and from the airport. Passengers can also avail taxi and rental car services from the airport premises. Pre-paid cab services are another option for travel. Baggage services and duty-free shopping are among the amenities available at the airport. The Agartala Airport has excellent connectivity with the rest of the city; the bus stop is around 11 km away, and the train station is located at approximately 12 km from the airport. Construction has begun on a new terminal building at the Agartala Airport. The new terminal will have twenty check-in desks, six parking spaces, four aerobridges, conveyor belts, and other passenger-friendly contemporary facilities and amenities.
