Jorhat Airport, also called Rowriah Airport (IATA Code: JRH), is located around 7 km from the city. There is only one domestic terminal at the airport which is managed by the Airports Authority of India. It offers flights to upper Assam and Nagaland. About Jorhat

Jorhat is a rapidly urbanising city and a district in Assam. It is a cultural and agricultural hub of the state. The city gets its name from ëjorí meaning two, and ëhaatí meaning market, in Assamese. The two markets referred to here are Sowkihat and Masoorhat which have existed here since the 18th century along the banks of the Bhogdoi River. The Ahom king Gaurinath Singha moved his capital from Sivasagar to Jorhat in 1794. Subsequently, it became a planned city ruled by the Ahom dynasty. During that time, the city was a commercial metropolis, and the Ahom rulers built many roads and water tanks there. Jorhat served as the last Ahom capital. The town later fell under the rule of the Burmese, before it eventually became part of Assam. The majority of the people in Jorhat speak Assamese.
