Aizawl is the largest and capital city of Mizoram which is located around 3715 ft above sea level. The city is surrounded by the Tlawng River valley from the west and the Tuirial River valley from the east. The literal meaning of the word Aizawl is ëa field of wild cardamomí. This name was given during the 19th century at the time of Mizo chiefs Lalsavunga and Thanruma. Aizawl is the political and cultural centre of Mizoram.
