About Leh Airport

Situated at a distance of 4 km from the city centre, the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IATA: IXL) is the primary airport of the city of Leh. The airport got its name from the respected Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, whose 19th incarnation was believed to be a significant Indian and Ladakhi statesman. According to reports, the Indian Air Force handed the airport to the Airports Authority of India in 2016. At an elevation of over 10,000 ft, it is one of the worldís highest commercial airports. As of now, it only handles domestic operations. There is only one terminal for passengers, and a new terminal is under construction.
