About Bangalore

Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, is situated at an elevation of about 900 m above sea level, which is the main reason for the pleasant weather it enjoys throughout the year. Also known as the 'Silicon Valley of India', Bangalore is considered the IT capital. Several technological and educational institutes call this city home. Bangalore was founded by Kempe Gowda I of the Vijayanagara Empire in 1537. He built a mud fort in the region and was also the main designer of the city. He helped establish Pettahs around the fort and modelled modern Bangalore based on the design of the city of Hampi, which was an important city and capital of the Vijayanagara Empire at the time. Today, Bengaluru is one of the most populated cities in India. While the city is famous for its modern offices, it also has numerous parks and public structures, giving it the name the 'Garden City of India'. Kannada is the official language of the state, though other languages like Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, English, and Malayalam are also spoken here. A festival dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Draupadi, Karaga, is popularly celebrated in the city, apart from other festivals like Ram Navami, Ugadi, Eid, Ganesh Chaturthi, Dasara, and Diwali.
