About Srinagar Airport

Srinagar Airport, officially known as Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport, is located in Budgam town, which is 12 Km from Srinagar city. The airport is named after Sheikh ul-Alam, a Kashmiri patron saint. The only international flights operating from Srinagar are Haj flights. The Indian Airforce owns the airport, but the Airports Authority of India operates a civilian enclave from where commercial flights take off. The airport has one terminal building and the longest runway in the region capable of handling large aircraft such as Boeing 747 and Airbus 380. The airport witnessed military action during the various Indo-Pak conflicts. The airport can handle close to 950 passengers per day. In September 2021, the Aviation Minister announced that the airport terminal building would be expanded at the cost of INR 1,500 crores. In 2021, commercial night flight operations commenced for domestic flights.In addition, there is a paid bus service that ferries passengers from the airport to the Lal Chowk tourist reception center. There is also a free bus service offered by the Airports Authority of India, which carries passengers from the airport building to the airport entrance gate. Many private car rental agencies and taxis also operate from outside the airport.
