About Pondicherry Airport

Pondicherry Airport (IATA: PNY) is located at Lawspet, about 9.5 km from Auroville. Constructed in 1989, the airport did not see regular commercial flight operations for almost two decades. For years since 2015, flight operations have been largely intermittent, but Alliance Air suspended all operations soon due to payment issues. The airport, while currently technically operational, has observed very limited flight operations since August, 2017, when the Pondicherry to Hyderabad route was granted to SpiceJet airlines. The airport has a single asphalt runway, which is 1500 m long and 30 m wide, and steps are being taken to expand the airport and its operational capacity.
