About Bhopal Airport

Bhopal Airport is formally called the Raja Bhoj Airport. It is Madhya Pradesh's second-busiest airport in terms of aircraft and passenger movement. Bhopal Airport is set to receive the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility. Bhopal Airport is 15 km from the Bhopal Junction and 20 km from Rani Kamalapati (Habibganj) Railway Station. The airport lies at the intersection of State Highway 18, connecting Bhopal and Indore and NH 46 (a ring road).The length of the airportís runway was increased to 2,744 m in 2010 to facilitate the landing of larger aircraft. On October 23, 2010, Bhopal saw its first direct seasonal international flight take off to Jeddah, a Hajj charter for pilgrims flown by Saudia Airlines.Bhopal Airport became the state's first airport to run its utility grid system on solar power in 2013. In June 2013, a solar power plant of 100-kilowatt capacity was made operational with a plan to install a 2-megawatt solar power plant. Bhopal Airport has an Instrument Landing System (ILS), night landing facilities, and CAT VII fire services.The old terminal building is being revamped into a Cargo Complex to facilitate the handling of increased cargo operations. In addition, airport authorities plan to build a new air cargo hub on the sanctioned 17 acres of land near the airport.
