Kandla Airport is located in Kandla in the Kutch district. The IATA code of the airport is IXY. It was constructed in the later half of 1950; however, it became operational for the public only in 1960. Indian Airlines was the first domestic flight to fly from this airport. The flight services were interrupted many times in the past due to low occupancy, once during 1999-2006 and once during 2012-17. However, in 2017, SpiceJet again commenced its passenger services. It has only one terminal that can handle approximately up to 100 passengers. At present, there are no flights to Bhubaneswar from Kandla or vice versa. However, there is a direct flight to Mumbai and many connecting flights via Mumbai.

About Kandla

Kandla is a seaport and a town in the Kutch district of Gujarat near Gandhidham. It was constructed in the 1950s after India's independence and partition. The primary purpose of building the port was to serve Western India. In 2017, it was renamed Deendayal Port under the Indian Ports Act (1908). It is one of India's most critical and significant ports. It is the largest cargo-handling port in India. In 2020-21, the Deendayal Port created history by handling 117.5 million tonnes of cargo. It is the first port in India to achieve this milestone. Kandla has a hot and humid climate; the port's average temperature is approximately 24.8 degree C, and the average rainfall is about 410 mm.
