About Udaipur

Situated in Rajasthan, Udaipur, rightly known as the City of Lakes, is a fascinating blend of greenery, forts, ponds, and narrow lanes. The city is a popular tourist destination. Udaipur has three interlinked lakes - Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, and the smaller Swaroop Sagar Lake. Udaipur, the former capital of Mewar, was formed by Rana Udai Singh just after the collapse of Chittor to Akbar in 1568.The cityís origin has an intriguing legend. According to folklore, the founder, Maharana Udai Singh, was hunting one day when he came across a holy man meditating overlooking Lake Pichola. The hermit blessed the Maharana and advised him to construct a palace at the site. In 1559 A.D., the Maharana followed the hermit's guidance and founded the city.
