Agartala Airport, also known as Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport (IATA Code: IXA), is 12 km from Agartalaís city centre. It is an international airport owned and operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).Earlier known as Singerbhil Airport, Agartala Airport is one of the busiest airports in North-East India. AAI undertook the expansion project of the Agartala Airport to upgrade it for world-class facilities. These updates include a new integrated terminal building, runway and other infrastructure.The new terminal was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2022, and it has several modern facilities. The latest amenities include In-Line Baggage System (ILBS), escalators, lifts and the like. International flights are not yet departing from the airport, but they will soon connect with Dhaka and Chittagong in Bangladesh.
