About Shillong Airport

Officially known as Umroi Airport, Shillong Airport (IATA Code SHL) is a civilian airport at Umroi located around 30 km from the city. It is the primary airport in Meghalaya and is located at an elevation of 2,908 feet above sea level. Built in the mid-1960s, this airport was opened to the public in the mid-1970s. The Airports Authority of India and the Indian Air Force jointly operate the airport. There is a single terminal that currently caters to domestic flights only. Formerly known as Madras International Airport (IATA code: MAA), Chennai International Airport is the third-busiest airport in India.
