About Gaya

Gaya is one of India's most ancient and holy cities . It is a popular tourist destination in Bihar and holds significant historical and mythical significance. This holy city lies on the banks of the Phalgu River, which is mentioned in the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as in sacred Buddhist texts. Gaya is a multicultural city with pilgrimage and historic sites for Jains, Hindus and Buddhists . The area is also known for the Pitrapaksha Mela, where people from all over the country arrive here to perform ëPind Daaní (a ritual) for those who have passed away. Lord Vishnu is said to have transformed a demon named Gayasur into hills. People believe that the mountains that enclose modern-day Gaya are the physical manifestations of the demon Gayasur. Besides this Hindu relevance, the location witnessed Siddhartha's enlightenment journey, who subsequently became Gautama Buddha. It is well known that Lord Buddha attained enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, which became a popula r pilgrimage site for Buddhists from all over the world.
