About Coimbatore Airport

Coimbatore International Airport (IATA: CJB, ICAO: VOCB) is the only airport serving the city of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The airport is located in the neighbourhood of Peelamedu, around 10 km from the city and 11 km from the railway station. Coimbatore airport has a single runway 9,760 feet long and has flights to many cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Guwahati, etc. The airport is also connected to two international cities: Sharjah and Singapore. The airport initially saw Indian pilots flying the Fokker F27, Douglas DC-3, and Hawker Siddeley's Avro 748 in the 1940s. At the time, only a few cities, including Chennai and Bengaluru, had air service; subsequently, Mumbai and Cochin were added. The airport was temporarily closed for runway extension in the late 1980s. The airport received a new terminal in 1987. Currently, the airport serves both domestic and international travellers.
