It caters primarily to pilgrims and tourists flying in to visit the sacred cities of Rishikesh, Haridwar, and other parts of the Dehradun district in the Himalayan region. It is also known as the Air Gateway of Garhwal and plays a critical role in Uttarakhand's tourism.The airport's terminal building is equipped with air-conditioners, a Flight Information Display System (FIDS), and CCTV surveillance systems. Moreover, it is set to undergo a complete makeover to match the projected increase in tourist footfalls. Facilities will include 36 check-in desks, self-check-in kiosks, in-line luggage screening, and four aerobridges.
