About Aurangabad

Aurangabad is one of the oldest cities in India and has a rich culture and heritage. The city's history goes back to the late Mughal era in India. It received its name from the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, who established his headquarters here during his vice royalty over the Deccan area. Aurangabad also has a history dating back to even before the Mughal Era, all the way to the 2nd Century BC, when it was the capital of the Satavahana rulers, and was called Pratisthan. Aurangabad not only offers an opportunity to travel back in time with its vast history, but it is also able to adapt to the times and embrace modernity with tradition. Aurangabad is the headquarters of the region of Marathwada and also houses the headquarters of several multinational companies. Aurangabad is known for its intricate silk textiles, especially shawls. Being located in the Deccan area of India and being relatively inland, Aurangabad has a moderate climate throughout the year, which is very pleasant most of the time. What is most interesting about Aurangabad is the journey of the city itself. The city has the unique feature of being a part of Hyderabad when it was a Princely State under British rule. It was then absorbed into Maharashtra in independent India.
