About Imphal Airport

Imphal International Airport ( IATA code: IMF) is the 2nd international airport in India's Northeastern region, after Guwahati. Imphal, the capital of Manipur, lies approximately 8 Km south of the airport. This airport, formerly known as the Imphal RAF station, was a significant allied troop supply airstrip during WWII. Japanese soldiers attempted to take control of Imphal during the Battle of Imphal but suffered terrible losses and were pushed back to Burma. Although Imphal Airport has two terminals, only one is operational. Domestic flights depart from here regularly. There are ten check-in counters at the terminal. It can accommodate approximately 1000 passengers in the arrival and departure portions. For the comfort of passengers, several passenger amenities are offered, including free trolleys, a telephone security hold area, a lost and found counter, a childcare room, wheelchairs, aid to elderly or physically challenged travellers, and a medical room. Travellers can also take advantage of general amenities such as a tourist information desk, a post office, and shopping. Passengers can also use Imphal International Airport's VIP room and smoking area. There are few duty-free stores in the airport where travellers may purchase goods at low costs.

The area has pleasant climate all year; it is not too hot in the summer and not too chilly in the winter. Overall, the district's climatic conditions are salubrious and monsoon tropical. The Imphal, Nambul, and tributaries are the main rivers that drain the Imphal west plain. On its upper course, the Nambul river comprises a variety of small streams. With a brief course, its discharge drains into Loktak Lake.
