About Kolkata

Kolkata, previously known as Calcutta, is called the City of Joy for its vibrance and festive nature. It is the capital of West Bengal and one of India's most densely inhabited cities. Kolkata is located on the Hooghly River's eastern bank, near the Bangladesh border. Kolkata is India's second-largest metropolitan area and fifth-largest port. This city's development can be traced back to British and French colonial rule. The city is well-known for its colonial architecture, including the magnificent Victoria Memorial. Owing to its diversified culture, Kolkata is considered one of the primary cultural centres of India. Kolkata was the capital of British India before the capital was shifted to Delhi. Some of the still-functional architecture in Kolkata date back more than a century, including the city's original tram system. The Victoria Memorial, Eden Gardens, Howrah Bridge, and the Raj Bhawan are some of the must-see attractions. Visitors may also take river cruises on the Hooghly River. The Indian Museum is also an excellent site to learn about the city's rich history. A trip to Kolkata during Durga Puja is a one-of-a-kind experience. The beautiful pandals and mesmerising festivals are among the most unforgettable experiences during this time. It also serves as a gateway to eastern India. Kolkata is also known for its street food such as jhalmuri, egg roll, and ghugni and offers a wide variety of local and traditional cuisine.
