About Gaya

The mythologically famous city of Gaya is the second-largest city in Bihar. The city's name has been derived from the demon named ëGayasurí. The reference to its name goes back to the tale where Lord Vishnu killed the demon Gayasur by smashing him with the pressure of his legs. As the demon got smashed, he got transformed into multiple rocks. The rocky hills make up for the beautiful landscapes of Gaya. A large number of temples related to Hinduism and Buddhism surround the city. Tourists can enjoy sitting on the ghats of the Falgu River. This city is also a popular place for Buddhists. Buddha preached the fire sermon to a thousand fire-worshipping ascetics at Brahmayoni, who later got enlightened with his discourse. As a result, nearby places like Rajgir, Nalanda, Patliputra, and Vaishali became knowledge centres. These areas were further developed during the Mauryan reign in Patliputra (present-day Patna). On the other hand, Gaya remained a part of Magadh at the time. The city currently has well-connected roads, railways, and air routes
