About Aurangabad

In western India, the city of Aurangabad, originally known as Khadki and Fatehnagar, is located in Maharashtra's western central region. An upland region, it is located on the banks of the Kaum River. In 1610, Malik Ambar (Anbar) laid the foundation for what was then known as Khadki, the current name of the city. The city was taken over by the Mughals in 1633, following the end of the Nizam Shh dynasty. During Aurangzeb's viceroyalty, it was renamed Aurangabad, and the city was named after him. His first wife Dilras Banu Begum was the inspiration for Bibi Ka Maqbara, which is a copy of the Taj Mahal. Even while Aurangabad remained the home base of the nizams (rulers), it began to decay when the capital was relocated to Hyderabad. Artistic silk materials, such as shawls, are popular in the city of Aurangabad. Ambedkar University, founded in 1958, is located in the city, and it is a major educational centre with numerous branch institutions. In addition to its closeness to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Ellora and Ajanta cave temples, the city is also a major tourist destination.
