About Chennai

Chennai is the capital of the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Referred to as the 'Gateway to South India', Chennai is believed to be the oldest modern city in India. Given that Chennai upholds its ingrained customs and rich history, it is not surprising that people also refer to it as an exotic state. In South India, Chennai--formerly known as Madras--is the centre of culture. A youthful energy permeates this 350-year-old metropolis. When Madras gained its freedom, the British had a firm grip on the city and had numerous positive effects. They were mostly responsible for Chennai's rapid expansion from a wooded area to a modern city. While Chennai's central sector serves as the city's commercial hub, the northern portion is predominantly an industrial district. Kodambakkam, the centre of Kollywood's film industry, is home to a large number of film studios, production companies, and movie locations. No matter how large the city is, Chennai manages to maintain a great balance between its ancient past and contemporary vibe. The skyscraper-filled skyline of Chennai is impressive to see. Once in Chennai, you'll easily get used to the city's bustle and come to appreciate all of its different faces.
