About Gorakhpur Airport

Mahayogi Gorakhnath Airport, also known as Gorakhpur Airport (Code: GOP), is situated approximately 5km from the city of Gorakhpur. The Gorakhpur Airport is used as a joint-use airport for both military and civil aviation. The civil terminal of the airport was inaugurated in June 2017 by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. At present, the Gorakhpur Airport has one runway and the existing civil terminal can handle only 200 passengers at peak hours. The airport witnessed more than 600,000 passengers during the year 2019. However, in view of the growing traffic at the airport and considering the limited options available due to restrictions enforced by the Airports Authority of India, a greenfield airport has been proposed on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi National Highway, covering an area of 300 acres. Gorakhpur Airport is well-connected with major cities across India through the network of domestic airlines comprising IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India etc.

About Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, a small city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, is located at the banks of the Rapti river in the Purvanchal region. The name "Gorakhpur'' is derived from a Sanskrit word Gorakshapuram, which means abode of Gorakhnath, a prominent saint of the Nath Sampradaya. Situated in Dabolim village, the Dabolim International Airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India. It is the only airport in Goa, and serves as a civil enclave within the INS Hansa military base. Spread over 688 hectares in area, it handled over 7.6 million passengers between 2019-2020, with the enclave occupying a further 14 hectares of land. Both international and domestic travellers transit through the airport's integrated terminal complex. It first opened its doors in December, 2013. There are 75 check-in counters, 14 security checking booths and 2 terminals at the airport. Considered the 10th busiest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic, it serves various Indian as well as international airlines.
