About Tuticorin Airport

Located 17 km from the main city centre of Tuticorin in the west direction, Tuticorin Airport (IATA code TCR) is a domestic airport. It is the fifth busiest airport in the state. It started in April 1992, inaugurated by Tamil Naduís then Chief Minister Jayalalitha. Besides serving the Thoothukudi district, this airport also serves Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts. The airport is undergoing an expansion project for which 600 acres of land are assigned to the Airport Authorities of India. Currently, the airport has one runway, 1349 m long and 45 m wide runway and is made up of asphalt. There are two parking bays. The airport is equipped to handle flights during both day and nighttime. The runway has modern technology such that flights can be operated even when the visibility is low. There is one terminal building that handles both arrivals and departures.
