About Gwalior Airport

Situated north-east of the city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, the Gwalior Airport is part of the Maharajpur Air Force Station. The airport is primarily a civil enclave, operating fighter planes owned by the Indian Air Force. It also has a civil aerodrome and a terminal, which is called Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal (RSVT). Domestic flights are operated by Indigo and SpiceJet at the Gwalior Airport. Its single terminal can accommodate around 350 domestic passengers at any hour of the day. The Gwalior Airport has two parallel, operational runways and is the only airbase in the country with this feature. The second runway was built and inaugurated in 2010. Since the airport is spread over an area of 760 acres, it has adequate space to handle two Airbus aircraft, along with a relatively smaller aircraft at the same time. The Gwalior Airport is the gateway to the city of Gwalior and has basic amenities such as an inspection centre, X-ray machines, baggage counters, a medical centre, newspapers and magazines, clean toilets and restrooms, special features for individuals with disabilities (ramps, wheelchairs, special toilets, ambulifts), trolleys, a childcare room, snack bars and counters, and free Wi-Fi. As it is only 10 km from the city centre, the Gwalior Airport can be accessed using taxis, app-based cabs, rental cars, and bus services.
