About Jammu Airport

The Jammu Airport, officially known as the Jammu Civil Enclave, is also called the Satwari Airport. It is a domestic airport for the residents and tourists in Jammu and Kashmir. The airport is located along the Ranbir Singh Pura road, 10 km northwest of the city of Jammu. It has a parking space for 80 cars. The general connectivity between the airport and the city and other destinations is well-developed via various modes of transportation. The bus station, although 10 km from the airport, can be reached via bus facilities that operate near the airport. Passengers can also use app-based cab and taxi services to reach the city centre. The domestic airport has five gates and fourteen check-in desks and connects Jammu to major cities like Delhi, Ranchi, Leh, Shimla, and Mumbai. Flights are operated by Air India, IndiGo, Go First, SpiceJet and Vistara. Aside from that, it also has a host of gift and souvenir shops, a restaurant, a shoe shop, a store selling packaged food items, and an information desk for pilgrims travelling to the Vaishno Devi temple. The Jammu Civil Enclave has one operational terminal at present, but plans are underway to develop a second terminal with an investment of INR 700 crores. In July 2021, the airport was deemed capable of handling night flights on its single runway.

About Jammu

Often referred to alongside its neighbouring state Kashmir, Jammu is an independent and overwhelmingly beautiful city, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is one of the most visited areas for tourism in the country, and the single most important region for geopolitics in North India. Jammu is based in the Shivalik Range, overlooking the stunning Northern Plains of India. Owing to its 3000-year-old history, Jammu is popularly known as the City of Temples for its culture, heritage, and roots. It houses the Maha Kali Temple and is also the starting point for pilgrimages to Vaishno Devi and Amarnath Yatra. Jammu was ruled by the Dogra Dynasty before independence. As a result, its cuisine is heavily inspired by Dogra culture, with popular dishes such as dum aloo, rajma chawal, wazawaan, naan and kulcha, and Kashmiri pulao.

About Gwalior Airport

Situated north-east of the city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, the Gwalior Airport is part of the Maharajpur Air Force Station. The airport is primarily a civil enclave, operating fighter planes owned by the Indian Air Force. It also has a civil aerodrome and a terminal, which is called Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal (RSVT). Domestic flights are operated by Indigo and SpiceJet at the Gwalior Airport. Its single terminal can accommodate around 350 domestic passengers at any hour of the day. The Gwalior Airport has two parallel, operational runways and is the only airbase in the country with this feature. The second runway was built and inaugurated in 2010. The Gwalior Airport is the gateway to the city of Gwalior and has basic amenities such as an inspection centre, X-ray machines, baggage counters, a medical centre, newspapers and magazines, clean toilets and restrooms, special features for individuals with disabilities (ramps, wheelchairs, special toilets, ambulifts), trolleys, a childcare room, snack bars and counters, and free Wi-Fi. As it is only 10 km from the city centre, the Gwalior Airport can be accessed using taxis, app-based cabs, rental cars, and bus services.
