About Kolkata Airport

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) is an international airport in Kolkata, West Bengal, around 15 km from the city centre. It serves the Kolkata Metropolitan Area and acts as an aviation centre for the eastern and northeastern regions. Locally, the airport was known as Kolkata Airport and was previously called the Dum Dum Airport before being renamed after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. First opened in 1924, the Kolkata Airport is one of India's oldest. With an area of 1,641 acres, it is the largest air traffic hub in the country's eastern region and one of two international airports in West Bengal, the Bagdogra being the other. Kolkata Airport has two parallel runways. The major runway 01R/19L can handle 35 flights per hour, while the auxiliary runway 01L/19R can handle 15 flights per hour. The secondary runway is mainly used as a taxiway. The new integrated terminal, T2, can accommodate 25 million passengers per year, up from five million in the previous terminals. The terminal is a six-levelled L-shaped building. It features 128 check-in counters that use CUTE (Common User Terminal Equipment) technology, 78 immigration counters, and 12 customs counters. Air India provides passenger lounges. The terminal has 18 aerobridges and 57 remote parking places.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) serves Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. It is situated near Shamshabad, approximately 24 km south of Hyderabad. It opened on March 23, 2008, to replace Begumpet Airport and was named after Rajiv Gandhi, India's former Prime Minister. It has also been named one of the top ten airports in the world by AirHelp. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport surpassed Chennai to become India's fourth-busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic in 2021 for the first time. Between April 2020 and March 2021, it handled 8.04 million passengers. The airport has one passenger terminal, one cargo terminal, and two runways, along with flight training facilities, a fuel farm, a solar power plant, and two maintenance and repair facilities. It is an important hub for Alliance Air (India), Blue Dart Aviation, SpiceJet, Lufthansa Cargo, Quikjet Cargo, TruJet, Air India, and IndiGo. The airport is built over 5,495 acres, out of which 2,000 acres are under airport use, 1,700 acres are dedicated to airside amenities, and 300 acres have been assigned for landside facilities. The remaining 3,495 acres are reserved for airport expansion. The airport has a single integrated passenger terminal and can accommodate 12 million people per year. International flights are serviced on the terminal's western side, while domestic flights are handled to the terminalís east. There are 46 immigration counters, 96 check-in desks, and 19 self-service kiosks. The airport has seven gates on the south side of the terminal and two others to its north. Around three gates service widebody planes efficiently using two jetways. Plaza Premium Lounge manages three lounges at the terminal and provides public lounge services.
