About Hyderabad

Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, is one of the largest and most populous cities in the state. The city, located on the banks of River Musi, is well-known as the former seat of the wealthy Nizams of Hyderabad and is often referred to as the City of Nizams. The city was founded by the Qu?b Sh?h? sultans of Golconda. Hyderabad was named after Haider, the son of Quli Qutb Shah . Under their reign, the kingdom of Golconda flourished and attained a position of importance. When an extreme water shortage arose, the old fortress town of Golconda proved inadequate as the capital of the kingdom. Subsequently in 1591, Mu?ammad Qul? Qu?b Shah built the city of Hyderabad on the east bank of River Musi. The Mughals and then the ??af J?h?s ruled over this city until a year after Indiaís independence. Even today, Hyderabad's culture, cuisine, and iconic architectural landmarks like the Charminar and Golconda Fort serve as reminders of the city's illustrious past and reflect the influence of the cityís extensive royal heritage. The city is renowned for its pearl and diamond jewellery, metal handicrafts known as Bidriware, a type of 3000-year-old hand-painted/block printed cotton textile art called Kalamkari, and Pochampally silk sarees. The official languages of the city are Telugu and Urdu. The dialect of Urdu spoken here is known as Deccani Urdu, which is quite distinct from standard Urdu. Other languages like Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, and English are spoken among people of other communities who have settled down in Hyderabad.
