About Chennai

Earlier known as Madras, Chennai is one of Indiaís premier metropolitan cities. It is the capital of the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Located along the Bay of Bengal on Indiaís east coast, Chennai has a rich and diverse history. It was an important urban centre during the rule of the Pallava Dynasty in medieval times, and continued to be a centre of trade and commerce. It was earlier under Portuguese rule and then passed to the colonial British. Thus, Chennai has always been an important administrative and commercial centre. Chennai's historical roots also make it a hub for major religions. It has more than 600 Hindu temples. It also has several churches, including one of the most important shrines in India, called the San Thome Basilica. Dedicated to St Thomas, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus who landed on Keralaís shores in the 1st century CE, the church is said to enclose the tomb of the saint, who is believed to have been martyred in what is present-day Chennai. The present church was built by the British in 1898. The colonial legacy is still clearly visible in Chennai, which is now also a major industrial and commercial centre. Since it is a hub for the automobile industry, Chennai is known as the ëDetroit of Indiaí. This southern city blends culture, tradition, history, and contemporary life in its own unique way. This is most visible in the coexistence of temples, forts, palaces, shrines with high-tech buildings. One of Indiaís longest beaches, Marina Beach, is located in the heart of Chennai. According to 2011 Census estimates, Chennai has a population of 4,646,732.

About Indore

Indore is the most populous city in the state of Madhya Pradesh in Central India. It is the commercial heart of the state, a legacy of its role centuries ago when it was a centre of trade due to its position between the Deccan and Delhi, the capital of successive empires that ruled India. Indoreís position as a trading city was further consolidated in the early 18th century by local zamindars, or landowners. They built the Indreshwar Temple, which gave the city its name. The history of Indore is greatly influenced by the Holkar dynasty, which was founded by Malhar Rao, a general of the Marathas under the Peshwas. The Holkars later became independent rulers, independent of the Maratha Empire, before their territories were consolidated into a princely state during colonial British rule. As an industrial hub, Indore is associated with textiles, tiles, cement, chemicals, furniture, and sporting goods. It is also an engineering hub. The city also has a few noted educational institutions, such as the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, formerly the University of Indore. The university not only has many colleges affiliated with it, but it also has many professional institutions connected to it. Indore is the only city in India that has both an IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) and an IIM (Indian Institute of Management).
