About Kanpur Airport

Kanpur Airport (IATA code: KNU), also known as Chakeri Air Base, was built for the Indian Air Army. When the airport was partially opened to the public in the 1970s, regular flights to New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Allahabad, and Pune commenced. Passengers shifted away from Kanpur Airport since the CCS International Amausi Airport offered better connections, reducing the frequency of such flights. Kanpur Airport is approx 10 km away from the city centre. There are currently plans in the works for a two-phase airport expansion. Internal flights from and to Kanpur are served by a single national terminal with two boarding gates. The terminal can accommodate 50 people for both arrivals and departures. The 390-square-metre terminal features one verification and one monitoring desk. General passenger services include free trolleys, wheelchairs, a lost and found luggage counter, and escort assistance for elderly and physically challenged travellers. Air India presently offers flights between Kanpur and Delhi, as well as Kanpur and Kolkata. Flights to other major cities around the country are set to commence soon. Mahanagar Bus Sewa and other operators operate city bus services from Kanpur Airport. Passengers can also use available taxi and automobile rental options to go to their desired places.
