About Goa Airport

Goa International Airport (IATA: GOI) is about 30 km from the state capital Panaji, 5 km from Vasco da Gama, and around 23 km from Margao. It is a civil enclave managed and operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). It was initially built by the Portuguese in the 1950s. In the aftermath of the Goa Liberation, the Indian Naval Forces occupied the area. Currently, the Goa Airport can handle about 13 million passengers per year. The foundation stone for Mopa Airport, Goaís second airport, was laid in 2016 to fix capacity constraints and air traffic congestion caused by military operations at the naval base. Goaís Mopa International Airport should be operational by September 2022, doubling the daily flights landing in Goa from 70 to almost 150. Goa International Airport at Dabolim has restaurants, cafes, ATMs, free luggage trolleys, currency exchange counters, duty-free shops, information desks, and taxi counters. An intercity bus service connects the airport with various parts of Goa. Taxis or rental cars can also be booked from the airport upon deboarding.
