About Delhi

Delhi is the capital city of India. From 1206 until Timurís invasion and conquest in 1398, Delhi served as the capital of a Muslim kingdom. In 1526, the Mughal emperor Babur retained Delhi as the administrative capital. Shah Jahan began beautifying Delhi in 1638, and it was captured by the Marathas in 1771. Later, the British took possession of Delhi in 1803, and in 1857, it served as a hub for the great Indian mutiny. As Indiaís commercial, transportation, cultural, and political capital, Delhi holds a special place in the hearts of Indians. According to legend, Raja Dhilu, a king who ruled the region in the 1st century BCE, provided the inspiration for the cityís name. Many of the cityís other names, such as Delhi, Delhi, and Dhilli, are likely misspellings of his given name, Dilli. Old and contemporary road designs are mixed together in Delhiís city plan. There are a few transverse streets in the Old Delhi street network that connect the principal gates of the city. The main axis can be reached straight from a street leading from a subsidiary gate, but this is rare in Old Delhi, where most streets have variable lengths, widths, and directions. Intricate patterns of narrow and twisting alleys, cul-de-sacs, and byways make much of Old Delhi only accessible by foot. A sense of openness and tranquillity may be seen in the Civil Lines in the North Delhi and in South Delhi, which were both constructed for top British officers during the British rule.

About Jodhpur

Jodhpur is a popular and culturally rich city in Rajasthan. Itís on a barren stretch of terrain bordered by steep sand hills about Northwest of the Luni River. As a result of its harsh desert environment, the area is commonly referred to simply as ëMarwarí. The Thar (Great Indian) Desert covers much of the cityís North and Northwest. As the seat of the princely state of Jodhpur, the city was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput (a warrior ruler from Rajputanaís historical region). The city reached its peak of power under the ruler Rao Maldeo (1532ñ69). After Akbarís invasion in 1561, the state gave allegiance to the Mughal emperor. The Rajasthan State High Court is located in Jodhpur, which is also the second-largest city in the state. The University of Jodhpur (founded in 1962) is home to an air force academy, and the University of Rajasthan (in Jaipur) has a medical school associated with the University of Jodhpur. The city of Jodhpur is protected by an 18th-century fortification wall. On a rocky eminence above the city, the Mehrangarh Fort houses the Maharajaís residence and a museum. Immediately to the North are the remains of Mandor, the Marwari capital in the 4th century. The Umaid Bhawan Palace, which serves as both a royal residence and a luxury hotel, and the Jaswant Thada, a white marble monument to the 19th-century king Jaswant Singh II, are also noteworthy structures in Jodhpur. Agricultural crops, wool, livestock, salt, and hides are all traded through Jodhpur, which is also a key regional road and rail hub. Cotton textiles, brass and iron kitchenware, bicycles, and polo equipment are all made in the city, which also boasts engineering and railroad factories. In addition to ivory and glass bangles, Jodhpur is well-known for its coloured linen, lacquer work, felt and leather goods, and carpets. However, the cityís economy relies heavily on tourism.
