About Kadapa

Formerly referred to as Cuddapah, Kadapa is a city in the Rayalseema region of Andhra Pradesh. A city with a rich historical background, Kadapa was an important part of the Chola Empire between the 11th and 14th centuries. Eventually, during the later part of the 14th century, Kadapa became a part of the Vijayanagar Empire. In 1565, Kadapa was invaded by the Muslim Golconda rulers. Their leader Mir Jumla looted the Gandikota Fort using treacherous methods and defeated King Chinna Thimma Nayadu. The Nawabs played a key role in the art and architecture of the city by building several shrines. When the British arrived in 1800, they took the city under their control and made Kadapa the headquarters of one of the four subordinate collectorates. Ameen Peer Dargah, Chand Phira Gumbadh, Bhagavan Mahaveer Museum, Masjid-e-Azam, Devunikadapa, Belum Caves, Gandikota Fort, Pushpagiri, and Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary are some of the top attractions to visit in Kadapa.
