Kannur International Airport (IATA: CNN) offers domestic and international services to the North Malabar region of Kerala. It is located around 25 km from the city's heart and began commercial operations in 2018. Kannur Airport was constructed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model under civil aviation. Expansion plans are underway to widen the length of the 3050 m runway by an additional 1000 metres. It has a passenger terminal that is 97,000 sq. mtr with three levels and a 'swing facility' with sliding glass doors that allows the flexibility to be used as an international terminal, domestic terminal or both. Kannur, formerly known as Cannanore, is a well-known port and town that stretches across the Malabar coast in northern Kerala. It is often referred to as the ëCity of Looms and Loresí and the ëCrown of Keralaí, owing to its handloom industry, rich culture, and folk arts.
