About Kanpur Airport

Kanpur Airport (IATA code: KNU) was formally designated as a military airport for use by the Indian Air Force. It is also known as Chakeri Air Force Station. Only in 1970 did commercial flights begin to operate from the Kanpur Airport. It began operating as a regular domestic airport in 2004, connecting Kanpur to nearly all of the country's major cities. The Airports Authority of India intends to expand the existing Chakeri Civil Enclave facility to accommodate larger passenger aircraft and boost Kanpur Airport's cargo handling capacity.Chakeri Airport was constructed in two stages. The existing terminal building was expanded during the first phase by adding a visitors' lounge and a new car parking facility.
