The presence of the Ganga River made industrial growth and trade develop smoothly around the city. It was the Britishers who laid the foundation of industry in Kanp ur which is why Kanpur became the centre of industrial attraction even before indep endence. In the present times, Kanpur is famous for its colonial architecture, apart from being the financial capital of Uttar Pra desh.
