About Ahmedabad Airport

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (IATA: SVPI) in Ahmedabad serves the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the financial and administrative centres, respectively, of Gujarat. It is situated in Hansol, which is around 10 km from the city centre. Originally known as Ahmedabad Airport, it was opened as a domestic airport in 1937 and designated as an international airport in 2000. Because of heavy passenger traffic, a new international terminal was added, and the airport was renamed in honour of the country's first deputy prime minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 2010. SVPI Airport is well-connected by flights to Indian cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Goa, and Siliguri. It is also connected to several foreign cities, including Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and New York. There are two passenger terminals at the airport ñ Terminal 1 is for domestic passengers, while Terminal 2 handles international passenger traffic. Each terminal can accommodate around 1,600 passengers at a time. The Arrivals areas of both domestic and international terminals have cab rental counters. From the airport, passengers can reach adjacent cities, such as Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, either by auto-rickshaws or prepaid taxis. SVPI Airport offers a wide range of facilities to passengers. They include air-conditioned lounges, spa facilities, and a childcare area. Passengers with special needs can also request wheelchair services and help from crew members.

About Ahmedabad

Originally called Amdavad, Ahmedabad is one of Gujarat's most important cities. It was founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah as the capital of the Sultanate of Gujarat. Kankaria Lake in the cityís Maninagar locality was built in 1451 by Delhi Sultan Qutb-ud-din Aibak. The city holds an important place in history due to the role it played in Indiaís struggle for freedom. Ahmedabadís infrastructure was improved during the reign of the British who considered it part of the Bombay Presidency. Even after independence, the city served as the capital of the state of Gujarat until 1970. Once known for its sandy roads and crowded areas, the city is witnessing a development boom and significant population growth. The growing high-rise buildings, shopping centres, and multiplexes have altered the skylines of this metropolis since 2000. Besides being considered the cultural and commercial centre of Gujarat, as well as much of western India, the city is also an educational and information technology hub. Along with the Sabarmati RiverFront Development, the BRTS project is also adding to the development of Ahmedabad. The city also has several tourist attractions such as Kankaria Lake, Jama Masjid, and Roza of Sarkhej. Lothal, the Stepwell of Adalaj, and Akshardham Temple are also situated nearby.
