Silchar Airport is a domestic airport. It was built in 1944 by the British. The airport is also known as the Kumbhirgram Airport, and its IATA code is IXS. Located on the foothills of the Barail range in Kumbhirgram, the airport is around 24 km away from the city centre. Silchar Airport is a civil enclave. Spread across 36 acres, this airport is the fourth-busiest airport in Northeast India and the second-fastest growing domestic airport after Surat.
