The Airports Authority of India has been in charge of the CRM Airport since 2013. The airportís history can be traced back to 1939, when the Air Services of India began flying to Kolhapur. The King of Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, officiated at the event and contributed significantly to its success. In 2019, Kolhapur Airport was renamed in his honour. Kolhapur Airport is in Ujalaiwadi, about 9 km from Kolhapur.This airport is set to receive a makeover that will allow it to handle Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 planes. It will help reduce traffic congestion at Mumbai and Pune airports. An aircraft gasoline station has been installed, allowing planes to stop here for refuelling.
