About Agartala Airport

The Agartala Airport, officially called Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport (IATA: IXA), is located 10.7 km from the Agartala city centre. It is the third busiest airfield in Northeast India. Raja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, the former king of Tripura, founded the airport in 1942. During World War II, the 4th Combat Freight Group used the Agartala Airport. At this time, it also served as a supply point, where pallets of weapons and supplies were air-dropped for the use of Allied forces.
