Tuticorin Airport (IATA: TCR, ICAO: VOTK) is a domestic airport located 16.9 km from Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. It serves the districts of Tuticorin and Tirunelveli. It is located on the western stretch, 15.6 km far from the city centre on the TuticorinñTirunelveli NH 7A. It is ranked the 5th-busiest among the airports in the southern cities of Tamil Nadu after Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli, and Madurai. This is a single-terminal airport serviced by SpiceJet and IndiGo airlines. About Tuticorin

Tuticorin or Thoothukudi, also known as the 'Pearl City', is situated in Tamil Nadu. It lies on the Gulf of Mannar in the Indian Ocean, about 40 km east of Tirunelveli. It is one of southern Indiaís flourishing ports that handle vessel drafts of about 27 ft at low tide and 30 ft during high tide. The city has an interesting history with the Pandian and Chola dynasties having ruled the island between the 7th and 12th centuries. It was then colonised by the Portuguese in 1932 AD, followed by the Dutch in 1658 AD. Finally, in 1782 the English captured Thoothukudi. The city played a major role in the freedom struggle in the early 20th century. V O Chidambaram, illustrious leader of the swadeshi movement in the south, established the first swadeshi Stream Navigation Company, which sailed the first steamer S S Gaelia to Thoothukudi on 1 June 1907. Tuticorin is blessed with a scenic coastline dotted with quaint coastal villages; it is also host to well-known temples, churches, and mosques. It is surrounded by pristine coral islands and home to dense palmyra and Odai trees. The people of this land are primarily engaged in agriculture, with paddy being an important food source. Tuticorin is home to several heavy industries such as Sterlite, SPIC, TAC, and Thermal Power plants along with many ancillary industries. Furthermore, textile and match industries form a major part of the Kolvipatti belt. As the first major port in India to receive such certification, Tuticorin port has entered a limited group of world ports by receiving the famous ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certificates for port operation and services.
