About Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, also spelled Amdavad, was established in 1411 and named after Sultan Ahmed Shah. It is the largest city in the state. From 1960 till 1970, it was the state capital of Gujarat. Ahmedabad was connected to India's independence movement. For many years, Mahatma Gandhi called Ahmedabad home. It was from this city that he launched his campaign of nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience, known as the Dandi March (or Salt March), against British authority in India. Known as the ëManchester of the Eastí, this city on the Sabarmati River became wealthy because of the textile industry. Ahmedabad is not only a popular place for business travellers but also a fascinating historical site. With the exception of the monsoon season, the weather in Ahmedabad is hot and dry because of the city's tropical monsoon climate. The maximum temperature on average during the summer is a scorching 41.3∞C, while the average low is a delightful 26.3∞C. Average highs in the wintertime reach 30∞C, while average lows dip to 15.4∞C. Ahmedabad is a melting pot of art, culture, and technology, making it ideal for creative people interested in all kinds of art. There are several monuments, great gateways, mediaeval forts, pools, and Havelis throughout the Old City, which are reminders of its rich history. The newer part of the city is located across the timeless Sabarmati River. In contrast to the congested bazaars of ancient Ahmedabad, this new section of the city is characterised by broad roadways and malls. These two disparate regions are connected by 11 bridges across the Sabarmati. Trying out Gujarati cuisine in Ahmedabad is a must, but taking a break from it to try other foods is something you must do in Ahmedabad. You must try the Lassi, Puri Shak Thali, Jalebis, Sev Khamani, Nylon Khaman, Gujarati Pizza Samosa, Surati Locho, and Khaman. You can also visit the Sabarmati Ashram, Kankaria Lake, and a number of different museums while in Ahmedabad, in addition to the riverfront and the narrow streets of the historic district. To name just a few: the kite, tool, and automobile museums. There is a wide variety of attractions both in and around Ahmedabad; all you have to do is be ready to explore.
