About Delhi Airport

Delhi Airport, officially known as the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IATA: DEL), is located in Palam, 16 km from the city-centre. It may be state-of-the-art and an architectural masterpiece but this modern wonder started out as an Air Force station during World War II. It was then simply called Palam Airport, after the area in which it is located. The airport was renamed Indira Gandhi International Airport after the former Prime Minister of India, in 1986. The airport is spread across 5,106 acres. Delhi Airport is the countryís largest airport in terms of passenger traffic, and is directly connected to more than 70 cities in India. It is also connected to international destinations in the Middle East, South-East Asia, Europe and the United States. The IGI airport has three terminals: T1 is part of the old Palam airport and it only handles flights by low-cost domestic carriers. T2 also handles flights only by domestic carriers, while T3 handles all international flights as well as some domestic flights. It was opened in 2010. According to the Airports Council International, Delhi Airport was one of the top-rated airports in the world in 2015. It was also named the ëBest Airport in Central Asiaí at the Skytrax World Airport Awards. Given the airportís size, the airport offers a shuttle service between terminals. The airport is also directly connected to Delhi city via the Delhi Metro, car rental services, ride-hailing taxis and public taxis. IGI Airport services a large region and is linked to other cities and smaller towns via inter-state and inter-city bus services.

About Delhi

Delhi is the capital city of India with a long and illustrious past. It has an abundance of tourist attractions, which includes seemingly countless historical monuments, shrines of all religions, and archaeological sites. A city that has been built, destroyed and rebuilt many times, Delhi is a wonderful fusion of cultures, customs and traditions, different types of cuisine, and architecture. Many of those who invaded and conquered North India set up powerful kingdoms and empires. Each of them left a mark on Delhi, and they date back to the Persians, Alexander of Macedonia, the Sythians, Parthians, and later Islamic conquerors such as Mohammad of Ghor. It was a lieutenant of this Afghan ruler who founded the Mamluk Dynasty, the first of the five Delhi Sultanates, in the early 13th century. The Sultanate period ended with the arrival of a Prince from Central Asia, named Babur, who founded the Mughal Dynasty in India in 1526 CE. During this time, the British East India Company too was ruling India. They made Delhi their imperial capital in 1911, after shifting it from Calcutta. It was the colonial British who established a new city called ëNew Delhií, their new seat of power, as different from Old Delhi, or the old walled city. The people of Delhi are vibrant and celebrate their festivals with great pomp and enthusiasm. These festivities reflect the influence of all major religions. Delhiites especially look forward to Holi, Navratri and Diwali, while other festivals like Lohri, Baisakhi and Id are also observed here. Delhi is known for its variety of culinary offerings, a legacy of the many foreign dynasties that ruled from here. Even its signature street food and snacks, such as samosas, kebabs, chole kulche, and momos, are a delicious fusion of cultures. What is a good time to visit Delhi? Summers in Delhi are intense. They are scorching and dry, and at times, the mercury can breach 45 ∞C. Although Delhi experiences a cold and dry winter with the mercury dipping to as low as 7 ∞C in January, the best time to visit Delhi is during winter. This is also peak tourist season, so make your flight bookings in advance.

About Kozhikode

Kozhikode is a prominent city in northern Kerala, located on the Malabar Coast of India. Earlier called Calicut, it has always been an important port on the west coast of India and traded actively with the Arab world and other foreign cultures. Kozhikode is known as the ëCity of Spicesí for its spice trade with the Arab and Western world in mediaeval times. It was also known for cotton textiles and, in fact, lent its name to the famous ëcalicoí fabric in British colonial times. The city saw a wave of Arab settlers in the 7th century. The next major milestone in its history was the arrival of the great Portuguese navigator, Vasco da Gama, who reached Calicut in 1498 CE and famously discovered the sea route to India. This was the beginning of Portuguese rule in India. Kozhikode has seen many foreign powers settle there to trade, the prominent ones being the British, who came here in the 17th century. They were followed by the French in the late 17th century and the Danes in the mid-18th century. It was also captured and sacked by Hyder Ali, father of Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore, in 1765 CE. A few decades later, the British regained control of the city. This coastal city has a tropical climate and experiences three distinct seasons - summer, monsoon and winter. The summer months are from March to May, when the temperature ranges from 29∞C to 34∞C. The monsoon season lasts from June to September with heavy rains. October to February is the winter season, and the temperature during this time ranges from 20∞C to 30∞C.
