The Agatti Island, popularly known as ëThe Fishing Capitalí, is a 6-km long island and one of the most beautiful lagoons of Lakshadweep. The Island is filled with scenic beauty, diverse aquatic life, and greenery. Agatti is known for deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, and sailing. When the loan increased, and the king could not pay it back, he handed the island to the British Empire. Finally, a union territory was formed in 1956, and the cluster of islands earned the name ëLakshadweepí in 1973. The main languages spoken on Agatti Island are Malayalam and Hindi. Mahi (Mahl), a dialect similar to Sinhalese, is spoken mainly in Minicoy. The main occupation of the people is fishing and agriculture. The best time to visit Agatti Island is between November and February, and the temperature is around 200C to 320C.
