This is one of Lakshadweepís many islands that are now open to visitors. However, visitors are subject to some rules and regulations while on the island. It is said that Lakshadweep was found by a group of people who set foot here while searching for a Chera King. Agatti is believed to be one of those few islands that were inhabited first. Later, an Arab saint came here and preached Islam in many of the islands. Today, Islam is the predominant religion that has shaped the traditions and culture of Lakshadweep. Besides, Kerala, being located nearby has also contributed to their traditional and cultural practices. Lakshadweep is home to two distinct types of folk art, Kolkali and Parichakali. Minicoy, however, has "Lava" as their dance form. Some of these traditional dances are quite similar to those that are performed in the north-eastern part of India. The cuisine of Lakshadweep Islands is heavily influenced by the Malabar cuisine of Kerala. Dishes from this region often include coconut oil and curry leaves.
