About Surat

Surat is located on the River Tapi, in the western part of India. It is the second-largest city in the state of Gujarat. One can trace its origins back to 300 BC. The city gets its name from Suryapur, an old Hindu town that existed between 1500 and 1520 AD. Trade has led to the migration of numerous individuals from various racial and ethnic groups, including the Parsis and western Chalukyas, to this city. Diverse religious groups, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians, among others, have flocked to this city in pursuit of their fortunes. They are collectively referred to as "Surtis" collectively. Surti Gujarati is the language spoken by the people of Surat. One of India's cleanest cities, Surat is also known as "The Silk City," "The Diamond City," and "The Green City." Surat is home to many historical monuments, and one can spend time visiting Dumas, Dandi, Hajira, Ubhrat and Tithal among others. A few street foods one must try out are the Undhiyu, Locho, Nankhatai, Surti Sev Khamani and Rasawala Khaman Dhokla to name a few. Some of the celebrations are Ganesh Chaturthi, Navaratri, and Diwali. The annual Makar Sankranti festival, which is celebrated on January 14th, is especially important to the people of Surat and has great cultural significance.
