About Port Blair Airport

Port Blair Airport (IATA: IXZ) is known as Veer Savarkar International Airport. It is named after a famous freedom fighter named Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Port Blair Airport operated its first flight in 1957. It lost its operation during World War II and was the centre of refuelling and mail service. Hence, it served a vital role in the war. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) only manages the airportís passenger terminal building and apron operations. The airport is otherwise under the Indian Navyís control. Port Blair Airport is an international airport having a single terminal. The domestic terminal has a capacity of 400 passengers for arrival and departure. It has two boarding gates on the ground floor of the domestic terminal. The international flight terminal is under construction.
