Dehradun Airport is officially known as Jolly Grant Airport. It is located 25 km towards the southeastern part of Dehradun. Dehradun Airport was built in 1974. Before this, Vayudoot, which was a regional airline in India operated from Pantnagar, New Delhi, and Lucknow from 1982 to 1995. Air Deccan launched flights between Dehradun and New Delhi in December 2004 and added a second daily flight in August 2006. The runway of this airport was expanded from 3,500 feet to 7,000 feet lengthwise and expanded from 23 feet to 45 feet breadthwise to allow for smaller body jets such as the Airbus 320 and Boeing 737.Commercial activities at the airport began in March 2008 after the extension of the runway to accommodate larger airlines.
