Famously called the ëWine Capital of Indiaí and ëGrape Capital of Indiaí, Nasik is a lively city with a mix of historical and modern architecture. Numerous forts and beautiful temples dot the city, competing for space alongside industries and other emblems of modern India. After the fall of all these ancient Hindu dynasties, Nasik came under the Mughal rule in 1487. Nasik was called Gulshanabad back then. It remained under Mughal rule until the death of Aurangzeb in 1707. Gulshanabad was renamed Nasik in 1734. Around 1818, the British took over Nasik and retained it till 1947.
