About Vadodara

Vadodara, commonly known as Baroda, is the third-most populous city in Gujarat, with a population of 1.67 million, according to 2011 Census figures. Located on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, around 141 km from the state capital of Gandhinagar, Vadodara takes its name from the Sanskrit word ëVadapadrakaí, which means a ëvillage among banyan treesí. Vadodara and the surrounding region have been ruled by various dynasties over the centuries. It was ruled by the Guptas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas and Solankis before it fell to the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century AD. The city then became part of the independent Gujarat Sultanate, followed by the Mughal Empire and then the Marathas. Most notably, Vadodara was the seat of the influential Gaekwad dynasty, which ruled it as a princely state from 1734 to 1947. The city also carries the legacy of the colonial British, who established themselves here in the early 19th century. Vadodara, known for its gorgeous palaces, historical sites and monuments and rich culture, is a wonderful destination for a vacation. It has something for everyone, including those looking for entertainment, history buffs, environment lovers, peace seekers, and architecture enthusiasts.
