About Puttaparthi Airport

The Sri Sathya Sai Airport (IATA: PUT) is in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, India. The airport is named after the spiritual leader and philanthropist Sathya Sai Baba. It is a tiny airport with private plane capabilities rather than commercial planes. The airport opened in 1990 to assist the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences in the event of an emergency. L&T ECC built the airport's 1000-metre-long runway and terminal building. The runway was eventually expanded to accommodate bigger jet planes. On November 24, 1990, the Sri Sathya Sai Airport opened to offer essential air travel to the Sri Sathya Sai College of Higher Medical Sciences, with the commercial operation for tourists to Prasanthi Nilayam, Sathya Sai Baba's ashram in the town. Until 2006, Indian Airlines offered regular flights from Sri Sathya Sai Airport to Mumbai and Chennai. From 2006 until 2008, Indian Airlines used Puttaparthi as a stop-over on its Hyderabad-Vishakhapatnam flights. In 2005, Indian Airlines provided three flights per week to Bangalore.
